The Twilight Saga - New Moon

Like the Thanksgiving turkey, "The Twilight Saga: New Moon" is well and truly done. Cooked for two weeks on a high heat, the vampire love–a–thon has, remarkably, dropped 70% in takings, but still manages to hold on to the top spot thanks to a further $42 million over the holiday period. And if we‘re taking the Thanksgiving analogy yet further then Sandra Bullock‘s "Blind Side" is fast becoming the sage stuffing to R Patz‘s chart topper! Yes, the American Football true–life tale managed to nab $40 million over the four–day weekend to hold on to the runners–up spot.

Similarly holding firm is Roland Emmerich‘s much–derided "2012". The Earth–bustin‘ disaster pic stays at number 3 for the second week running having grossed £138 million thus far (which, interestingly enough, is the cost of just one of its CGI–laden scene…just kidding!). The first new entry then this week sees John Travolta and Robin Williams trying to relive their "Wild Hogs" success with comedy outing "Old Dogs". The pair though could only carry this Disney effort to a fourth–placed finish and a $16.8 million opening weekend.

Jim Carrey is still scary the kids in "A Christmas Carol" at 5 this week, which was more than enough to see off the Wachowski brothers‘ "Ninja Assassin". The highly–charged kung–fu fest could only pummel $13 million out of the Chart.

Dwayne Johnson and "Planet 51" fall three places to 7 with "Precious: Based on the Novel ‘Push‘ by Sapphire" down two places to 8 and still reeling in those critical praises. Perhaps most disappointingly of all this week is the Chart showing for Wes Anderson‘s "Fantastic Mr. Fox". The quirky stop–motion animation, based on Roald Dahl‘s cherished story, did solid business internationally but has debuted in the States at number 9 having taken just $7.2 million in its opening weekend. And another George Clooney–starring effort rounds out the Chart this week with "The Men Who Stare at Goats" at 10.
